Shore rigs help please

Hello Guys,
I want to order some rigs in bulk( 1st time out fishing and managed to loose 8 rigs,

). Ill be fishing around Howth and Dun Laoughaire. Could anyone recommend some rigs best for these locations.
Plus could you recommend a tackle shop or web site to purchase. Thanks for the help,

New to fishing.
First, I recommend you become a member of the site.
Second, have a good read through the threads.
Third, ask loads of questions. You'll always get a response from the resident posters.

Generally we all tend to make our own rigs, but if you look at the rigs you buy and practice making them, you'll soon be doing the same.

8 rigs is a lot to lose in one session.

What strength of line are you using? it should probably be a minimum of 15lb breaking strain, up to 20lb if you are fishing in rough stuff.

You should also check the knots you are using. If you are using shoelace knots every time I would suggest that you do a quick search of the web to find some fishing knots. The tucked half blood is very easy to start with, and you can progess from there. Granny knots will break every cast!

You can buy shore rigs from Euro tackle http://www.euro-tackle.com/ , although they seem to have removed them from the website over the past couple of days. Email Peter Noone at sales@euro-tackle.com, and ask him what the story is. They are 3 euro per rig, and post is free. Alternatively any tackle shop will have a selection for you to try.

If you are fishing in rough tuff, stick to single hook rigs, if it's clean 2 and 3 hook rigs will be fine.

I would suggest that you buy a few different rigs in your local shop. Then learn how to tie knots correctly. When you are competent at this, go out and buy some 50lb line for the rig body, some 20lb line for the trace lengths, some swivels and some hooks. Then try and copy the rigs you have bought, it's the best way to learn! The tackle shop will be able to give you all you need if you explain what you want to do.

It's far far cheaper to make your own, so give it a go! Besides it's more pleasure to catch fish on rigs you have made yourself!

ahoy!
check out the rigs in your local shop, and whatever websites the other lads recommend, but i'd definitly suggest making your own rigs. it's a bit daunting at first when you have no one there to advise you, but check out this link, it has some of the most commonly used rigs that irish shore anglers use

as i said it's slightly daunting, but when you break it all down, the rigs are quite simple. to get started pick up a spool of 60 or 70lb shock leader(for the rig body), a pack of crimps(small hollow pieces of metal you squeeze on the rig body to secure the hook snoods) a pack of small beads, a few packs of different strength swivels, a spool of 20 to 30lb line for making the hook snoods and a couple of packs of decent sea hooks in a few different sizes. then just start throwing together your own rigs. it's pretty simple once you get into it, and they are a great way to spend your evenings instead of being plonked infront of celebrity love island on tv3!
finally as wes said, definitely registar with this site, andd ask all the questions you like, everyone has to learn somewhere, and the likes of this site offer an infinite amount of experience and advice. best of luck.

I'm going to say tie your own mate,

Terry Jacksons articles in Irish Angler may help.
I find, if your going to be fishing a lot your better to buy bits and bobs in Bulk, A favourite of mine is Gerrys of Morcambe. Be warned, tying can become addictive, and sometimes can get as enjoyable as fishing!

If you are going to start tieing your own I'd recomment the following book:

Also so a search on "Junk leads" and "rotton bottom" (On this site) as it sounds like you fishing some foul ground.

Hi, go out to your favorite marks and ask questions of successful anglers, look at their tackle and rigs and ask any questions you have about them.
Iv'e even given used rigs, tackle to people, youngster's who have be keen to pick up info from me while I have been fishing, most anglers will be more than willing to help you out I'm sure

Hi Guest, see the rigs section on my site - procast-angling.com. I'm taking the website down soon as I dont have time to run it anymore so am getting rid of everything at knockdown prices just to get rid. All rigs are now 1.30 sterling - conger rigs are 90p.

everything else is also reduced .

Hi Adrian,
yip, I have a couple of thousand packs ready made and coloured. Also bought about 10 new moulds when I was in the states. I'm going to stick at the plastics and leadheads as I reckon I'll have time for that - plus I'll need the samples I get to fill my tackle box !

Am shifting the current stock of leadheads at 1 quid a pack , or 1 quid fpr the big 8oz.
Packs are 1oz, 1.5 oz and 2 oz. Coloured or plain.
8oz in coloured only.

Mann's shads are also for sale at 75p per pack for any of the 4 sizes.

I'll give it a week or so and then reduce the prices on the procast website,
