Pollack / Coalie question.....

I don’t know what the rest of the country is like, but around Inishowen, all the piers and Harbours are always teeming with juvenile Pollock and Coalies. Am I right in assumeing that ‘big mammy fish’ will have had to come in to these area’s to spawn? Or do both male and female take up residence during mating, and either way what time of year does this happen?

To be honest its moville peir that puzzles me the most, because with the likes of Malin Head, Culdaff, Lenan etc these piers all have decent rock marks pretty close to them which hold big fish. But 'as far as im aware' the closest 'bigger' fish mark to Moville is Shroove, which would mean that the fish would have to make a conscious effort to get to Moville to mate/spawn whatever and would have to swim past two other peirs to get to the upper pier in Moville?

"big mammy fish" of pollack and coal fish, don't come in shore so often. Big ones spawning in open water over reefs or weeds in waters of less then 100m, during spring months. The buoyant eggs drift with the water currents close to the shore, where larvae grow up to juvenile pollack...
