Only got the boat in the water for Midday as I forgot the key for the engine and made the mistake of asking the wife to drop it off. Of course the hair had to be done, the car needed fuel and of course, we had to take the worst possible route to Howth......
We decided to try get a few Macks around Irelands Eye. They were difficult to come accross, but we managed a few over an hour or two and then headed off to the Bennet Bank and try for a Ray or Tope. Having never fished the Bennet before the plan was to Anchor a few hundred meters away from the peak of the bank. I'm not sure if this is the place to be or not, but this is the spot we chose. We got quite a few dogs, but no Ray. Should have got there earlier as we were pushed off by the tide after a couple of hours. So it was back into Howth to scratch around for a bit before we called it a day. We tried a few different spots and managed some Pollock to about a 1lb and some Wrasse to 3.5lb. Ally the Git also managed a Cod that weighted in at 5.25lbs. Cracking Fish for the area, never mind the time of year.
A decent day out, Just have to concentrate a bit more on the Bennet and Kish banks to try catch a few Ray and Tope.
Looking forward to the next trip already.
