Me- 1 dog, 5 whiting, 3 dabs
Report: I got a text out of the blue from brian, and I gather his b/holiday weekend fishing didnt go too well, so he must have been desperate for me to put him on an east coast hot spot
With the weather being pretty foul, I half thought wicklow harbour would afford us a little protection....boy was I wrong
Anyhow, we arrived expecting to find the pier empty, turned the corner at the end to find 3 travellers (dressed like it was the middle of summer
Now, the reason I say trying to fish is because they were scared to bait up with rag for fear of being bitten, and frightened (on the odd occasion they caught something) to unhook the fish
We had got set up without too much drama, and I was first to catch with a small dab, almost see-thru
It was then brians turn to catch and he reeled in a nice sized dog.
The crabs seemed to be busy deavouring the baits, and even bait elastic didnt seem to help too much.
Brian was doing all the catching with plenty of dogs, and also some mini-species on his scratching rod (i think thats the polite way to describe it, if you see it you'll know why
He had a corkwing wrasse, a few blennys...we're not sure what type, and a tiny lobster, as the tide filled the whiting came on the feed very strongly, and even the doggies were not able to get at the bait.
By 10.30/11 ish we were both cold and wet and it was time to head home.
