Tide: LW @ 5pm-ish
Weather: Good, light breeze
Bait: Frozen macks, sandeels & squid.
Rigs: me: 1-up/1-down. saltydog: 1-up clipped-down (I think)
Results: saltydog: 1 ray, me: 1 doggie & 1 mack.
Report:
After a few message exchanges, myself and saltydog headed out to Carraroe. Even though we knew the tide was against us, the lure of those ray 2 days earlier was too strong to resist.
I got a rattle 10 mins after the first cast – no hook-up though.
A while later while saltydog was standing beside my rod chattin’, his rod got a nice rattle. He scrambled to his rod just in time to save it from heading out to sea. Result: a very nice ray, on sandeel. (Think it was around 46/48cm? saltydog can confirm I’m sure).
A few more knocks on both rods for a while (without hook-ups), then very quiet for a looong time.
Retrieving my rig to change bait and a mack grabbed 1 of my hooks. Blank saved and 1st mack of the season.
That was about it for bites, until what was supposed to have been my last cast resulted in a doggie. Got 1 more cast in, just in case there were more around.
Nothing doing, so time for home.
Too bad the tide was heading out, but at least no blanks.
Happy days…
