Duration: 19.30 - 22.45
Tide: HW approx 23.00
Weather: Slight breeze, dry, cool
Bait: Fresh mack, fresh lug, (re)frozen lug, fresh mussel
Rigs: 3 hook flapper, one hook pulley
Results: 4 dabs, 4 flounder (new species for me), 2 doggie's
Report: After spending an hour or so digging some lug and collecting some mussels at Monkstown, I headed down to my mark in eager anticipation after not throwing a line in last weekend (spent most of last weekend painting at home
Put the 3 hooker out first, baited with frozen lug and tipped with mack, then put the pulley out with a nice juicy fresh lug(huge
Not a bite on the first 2 casts with the 3 hooker, but then the tip started knocking on the third cast - a double of dabs. Baited up again and cast back into the same spot, 15 mins later a double of flounder (new species, so well chuffed
Whilst I was kept busy with the 3 hook flapper, the pulley rig was coming back with the bait stripped but no bites
I tried using bait elastic but the hook was still coming back bare - and no bites - All that effort digging fresh lug, and what for
Tried some mussel on the pulley, that didnt work either.
Tide was coming in now with waves splashing upto where I was fishing from, so common sense said I had to move. I reeled in after a couple more bites and had a flounder and doggie double
Moved to a spot higher up the rocks and felt quite dissapointed I had to move as the fish were coming thick and fast, it was around 22.00 when I moved.
Cast out both rods again, no bites on either rod.
All in all not a bad session really, but strange there was no Whiting, and strange how the frozen lug out fished the fresh lug (something to do with the hook size and ratio of 3 hook to 1 hook rig maybe
