First time on the board this year, so have a good one everyone!
I am hoping to spend even more time in Mayo this year and would like to have a go at catching a Tope or three. When is the best time?
I have a 16' boat so I am not limited to shore fishing.
Any other info like best baits, methods etc. would be a great help.
Locations, I have a few ideas, so that's not a problem, well if I'm wrong it will be.

If you get the chance, tow your boat two hours north to Lough Swilly in north Co Donegal any time between June and September. Easy free launching at Rathmullan. Lough full of tope.
Full side of Mackerel, Flapper, or Flatfish (apparently their main quarry in the lough) as bait.
Kieran will let you know about Mayo no doubt.

tope in Mayo
Hi Accony & Arthur G
I reckon Killala Bay at the mouth of the Moy has to offer them in spades. I know they feature on catches from the charter boats up that direction.
This is where I caught my lone tiddler (around 15 lbs). Beyond that, any river mouth with sand. If you have the boat handy then the carrowmore might be worth a try and it is only down the road from you, yes? Some of the bays might be worth a try around Belmullet but they are very shallow in the main, possibly the deeper channel at the end of Belmullet?
Now that's along drive with a boat behind you and the road is not pleasant!
FWIW...
