Rule for joining different diameter lines (shockleader)

hi all,
just wondered if there's a rule of thumb (i.e. no more than double or half the other line diameter) for joining two different line gauges - shockleader to mainline in this case. i'm using 0.24mm mainline and 0.45mm shockleader, the knot i've been using i found on the neilmckellow site and it seems fine, tight and neat. no problems yet with the knot on casting.
i always rinse the spool in warm water to help the line following a session but is it also worth retying the leader every so often? apologies if this is a basic one. cheers

I can go through up to eight leaders in a session on a bad night with snags.
I'd stick with the knot you have until you need to retie another rig, but check it at the knot before a session, if you need then cut and retie it.

I use an albright knot to attach the mainline to leader.

What is the Albright knot? I tie a figure of eight not in the reel line then run the shock leader through this and tie a grinner - it seems neat and hasn't let me down ......yet!!!

I wasn't using specialist leader mostly, was using a bulk spool of line.
I've actually sorted the issues I had with losing tackle with one simple change to my end tackle.
Have a lot less snags as a result and can actually normally pull out of them if I do.
