well, went back down the dee yesterday. bit of a mad rush down from belfast after the school run, but we made it in decent time and headed for the harbour. well what can i say, if there was a competition for the smallest fish in the sea to be caught we would have cleaned up the gold, silver and bronze i've never had a session of so many tiddlers before. don't get me wrong at least we were catching, but we did'nt catch anything over six inches. lots of small pollack and whiting to be had but. we got lots of shrimp in the bait trap and a ruddy great big lobster . how he got through the entrance of the net i don't know, but he was'nt coming out without a struggle. got him out in the end and put him back but. no fish of real size about but that seems to be the norm for fishing during the day at the dee lately. all the good size fish we caught here recently were all after dark. i'm heading down south at the weekend to co meath, we fished port oriel at clogherhead during the summer for mackeral but i don't know what it fishes like at this time of year. i'll be staying in bettystown so if anyone knows any decent marks in the area it would be appreciated

Jasus I'd have kept the Lobster for the Pot !!!

If your around Bettystown try the mouth of the Boyne For Bass or Sea trout.Ragworm or a spun sandeel should do the job !!!

cheers paul, i have 2 bags of rag ordered for friday to bring down with me and some frozen sand eel in the freezer we walked up to the mouth of the boyne in the summer and it looked a good spot on the beach, but never saw anyone fish it. starting to regret we did'nt give it a few casts now cheers for the info

went 2 pot oriel on monday stayed 4 bout 2hrs, fished of rocks as harbour was full of fishermen fixin der nets. not a thing 2 be caught r a bite.
as paul said stay in bettystown, head down past golf course to were rock head out to sea and set up. dont no bout bass dis time of yr but good chance of flats, seatrout and if ur very lucky u mite get a salmon!

you could try laytown beach, or rush has a harbour and two beaches, a bit further down is malahide or howth, not bad spots and can sometimes throw up some decent fish, i used to live in rush some great spots round that area and locals will point you in the right direction
