THE PLAICE ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!

#1 Post by magelite »

fishing today in red bay first at the ledge and then at red bay pier in waterfoot. caught a fat coalie then decided to try the crazy busy pier!! when i arrived it was quite busy but no one havin much luck! just as i got set up a guy who also just arrived caught a flounder of around 2.5lbs. then a few people left leaving enough room to fish. so in i go 2 rods and lug on the trace, first a smallish plaice just shy of eating size then next cast a plaice of around 1.5 to 2lb. fantastic

Hi Mag,
I was also up that way yesterday.Fished the rocks to the right of the life boat station from about 6.30pm until the swell drove me off at about 9.15pm.Had 5 coalies, biggest just short of 2lbs,and one tiny codling.
Moved round to the ledges and fished from about 9.35pm until about eleven with only one coalie.Got that within 10 minutes, but not even a bite from then on.This has never been one of my favourite spots but is an easy and comfortable spot to fish and a useful back up if the rock marks are unfishable.
Bait was ragworm tipped with squid.
P.S.Nice plaice for so early in the year.

The ledge isnt everyones cup of tea but i enjoy it, think it may be a little bit too early for that particular mark but i can assure you in a few months if you keep at it you will be rewarded. heading up again on easter tuesday! anyone fishing around the red bay area try and get lug it seems to work far better than any other bait. even a whole small sandeel is quite effective up there for flounder
