2 night flies and my go to fly when fishing kelp beds, sorry about pic quality of pics, was in a rush when taking them, the last 2 are the night fly

Nice flys lumpy they all look very good. I like the kelp fly does it fish upside down.

ya its slightly bent back and keel weighted with a strip of 1mm lead wire

This fly was kind to me in 2007. Nice and fast to tie ,which is an advantage as I fish it deep aound all manner of weed and snags , so I lose plenty. But replace them fast. With the Long zonker strip it fishes really well with minimal input in the way of retrieve. I often fish this on the drift from my boat with a fast sinking line. Pollack and Bass eat it. Its also good for fishing deep into Rips from the shore, it was very useful for stripers in the States in June

I wonder how usefull it would be in a strong Red colour for Pollack ?

Like many good flies its dead simple

size 1/0 Jiggy
7/32 Eyes
30 lb Mason Anti tangle on tail and also weed gaurd near the eye
Black Zonker Tail & Collar

dave the popper is a shopbought one which i shortened and sanded to suit my needs. bit clumsy to cast tho.

oz nice fly, use a similar one for the pollack but with a bright orange zonker tail and a bright chartreuse arctic fox wing..one mark i fish the pollack go crazy for them..would imagine yours would kill at night

this flat wing caught alot of bass and pollack in 2006, didnt fish much with it in 07 though

the flat wing is very similar to one i took pollock,mullet,seatrout,brown trout and salmon parr on last year. Blue and black seems to to the trick on a very regular basis. I find the poppers very hard to drive out any distance. Any ideas?

for the poppers i use a short leader of 3 ft of 40lb mason hard mono to 1ft of 30lb mason and finally 1ft of 20lb flouro (i like seagar). i also tighten my loops so i can maximize line speed and give a tighter loop as to penetrate the air with less resistance and thus carry the popper better. if you still have difficulty try foam poppers such as gurglers or sliders, they cast a little easier

also poppers dont have to be huge, the above mentioned is about 1 inches long in body, and another favourite is a one inched bodied gurgler, this i can cast 25yds on an 8 weight but on a floating line throws a large amount of water....i'l try put up a pic tomorro.

Try useing Gurglers, they are far easier to cast and have an excellent'' Surface Noise to weight Ratio''. I can cast these size 2 Gurglers on my 6 # rod.

Thank you all very much. I have just ordered a new rod, reel and line and find this very informative.

The comments here help me a great deal and I have a much better understabding of what I need, as far as flies goes.

Hi, This is my first post, so here are a few of my flies i use for bass here in Wales.

The four above are tied using DNA.

This on in firetiger colors, are tied with marble fox.

Hope you like my tie's, and they all work well for Bass.

Some cracking flies, but I dont think my wee fly tying chest for the trout will stretch to the materials used for saltwater, has anyone any advice for basic materials for starting of, prefered hooks etc.

Has anyone tried the falkus sunk lure fror bass , Ive found it very good for pollack and had a few white trout on it also.
