Hi all,
I'm just after joining the forum after many months of trying to get my ancient computor in working order,anyway enough of the formalities.Lads Im looking for advice on a rod that would complement my 50/50 zippy.The rod would be for clean ground calm conditions and should be able to cast to 5ozs max if needs be and be light enough to enjoy the fight.
I'm thinking of the aa surf,conoflex frenzy or the source estuary match or maybe zx 3500s but this might be a bit stiff for the lighter stuff,please help as my eyes are burnt out from the sea mags etc and the missess keeps asking me is all ok as I'm very quiet and i keep telling her its the rod not you :roll: :roll: :roll:

i have the 3500s.. great bite detection for small flats..

but if its a fight you want from a fish.. go lighter...


i have a leeda 11' quickspin(rated to 2oz).. even a good sized flattie gives a good scrap..
i can cast 2oz about 100yrds no problem with it. so distance isnt a problem with it either..
the largest fish i have caught on it is a 8lbs pollock.. caught plenty of doggies and thornies on it too..

try a bass rod mate, cast up to 4oz (some models) light to hold all day and any fish is great fun on it, mainly coalies, oh and bass :lol:

Thanks lads,
definately thinking bass rod direction just wary that a 2 to 4oz might fold if i need to lob the 5oz at least thats me thinking out loud with my one and only brain cell,really a rod thats light but strong with good bite detection for all the smallflats and coalies that I'm catching these days would be the answer to my delema

I have a Century Tip Tornado Lite, its a great rod (IMO) light, sensitive and designed for 4oz + 3 small baits . . will cast 5oz no bother too.

Great for all flats, whiting, basically just scratching around in the gutter....

i have the tip tornado ultralite and have managed 100yds with a 4oz and half a mack fillet without much hastle
shore species 2008(25):dogfish(3.1lbs), bull huss (12lb 2oz), bass, shore rockling, coalie, whiting, pollack, conger (22.4lbs),flounder, thick lipped mullet (4.8lbs),turbot,ling (11.2lbs),ballan wrasse(4.5lbs), cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, cod (9.5lbs), dab, 3 bearded rockling, long spined scorpion fish, corkwing wrasse, plaice, trigger fish, sea trout, garfish

Zipplex profile. I think you won't get a better rod for what you've described. I normally fish 3 to 4 oz on it, but can drop to 2 oz or rise to 5oz . can cast a long way. Very user friendly caster as well. Bite detection good and can still bring in a treble of doggies when needed.

The AA surf seems a very nice rod for what you want will lob 5oz if need be..

saving for a profile, hope to have the cazsh before next christmas, but i would recomend one,

Yip the word on the street is that the profile is the way to go spoke to gerrys of moorecombe this morning and they confirmed what people are saying .The rod is rated at 3 to 6oz but soooo light,now all I have to do is rob a bank or hope that santa is feeling really generous this year :lol: :lol: :lol:
thanks to all for the advice,ps is there anyone doing zippys in the rep I saw them in p.hornes a while back but not sure if he has a newish stock.

i was in with peter about 6 weeks ago and he said he had about a dozen zippys on the way in, pretty sure there was 2 profiles
