Maybe a PM to Peter Kinsella might be a help. He fishes Galway Bay regularly.
There is interesting info to be found here: (load into google earth)

I was given a mark yesterday in the inner bay area, not far out that is supposed to hold some good fishing, and i know of a few other marks close to the city that would be worth a shot..

where abouts is the mark?

ive had a boat moored in the bay and fished it for the last 3-4 seasons, foud a couple of good spots for ray and tope within the inner bay ,bullhuss and smoothhound and a few pollock, fishing best around the arann isles but the last few summers because of the weather didnt get out to them to often(from boat to isle approx 20 miles) and plenty of large swells.the boat will be back out in april keep in touch and will meet you out there

Im always hearing of these marks for ray and tope in the south east part of the inner bay, but never read any reports or seen any caught. Wanna swap some marks Steve? Fishing mostly the north side of the bay but motor over to the ledges and clare the odd day.

All the Tope marks have been around Newquay, never taken the boat or kayak in that far (Fishing out of Barna) but have tried from the shore with little success but the water fairly runs through the marks i fished hard to hold bottom.

Smoothhounds in Galway Bay? Are you sure your not confusing them with spurdogs?
