yamaha 2001 15HP prop rubber

Thu Jun 04, 2009 3:32 pm

Hi everyone,

My prop started slipping the other day and upon investigation it appears to be the rubber drive ring inside the prop that has worn. I am led to believe that I need to get a new prop as you can't just replace the rubber? Is this true as it seems a shame given that the prop is otherwise fine....?

Anyone know where to get a good deal on one (for prop or for rubber if can be replaced), been quoted €160-180 here in Cork, which I am loathe to pay because of a bit rubber. Not sure of the length and the pitch of the prop but it's a four stroke yahama 2001 F15AMH engine. I'll trawl around the net and see what I can find, but if anyone knows please let me know.

Cheers,
Lee

I have no idea on this one Lee. My own prop (Mercury 60 EFI) has a similar insert. They are there to protect the lower unit and gears should you run a ground or hit something. Mine is replaceable. Maybe you should look at a vendor in the UK to get a rough competitive price and some advice. A new prop can be expensive, but as always, it pays to shop around.

You can get the rubber replaced, not an expensive job I have no idea where you could get it done local but

http://www.castlemarine.co.uk/aboutus.htm

will do it on mail order and should get it back to you in a week (depending on howbusy they are) they will also take any dents out of your prop or resize it up or down up to 2 inches.

The guys on this thread might be worth the price of a phone call, they've been getting good mentions lately.

Hi Lads,

Thanks for the replies. Just a quick update.....

The Welsh guys in castlemarine would refit the rubber bush, but won't have any to fit my prop till next month probably and from what I can gather with postage etc would be less than £100 but don't quote me on that :D as I am a bit unsure. Also everyone else is telling me you can't refit it.. Seem like a nice bunch though, but given the time frame etc I think for me they are out of the equation.

Got a price of €176+VAT from Dan Fay - the yamaha dealer in Dublin - for a replacement prop (160-180 I was quoted in Cork - presume that was inclusive).

Found an aluminium one for around $105 dollars on ebay p, they don't have my exact pitch and diameter (9 1/4 x 9 3/4) the closest being 9 1/4 * 10, but I imagine on a long liner a 1/4 of an inch isn't going to make a blind bit of difference. I was wondering if anyone could suggest if that pitch and diameter is appropriate for a long liner, as I could go slightly smaller and bigger it would appear.

Anyway, spoke to Derek of d.d.m.marine as per tanglerat's suggestion (http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bulletin%20board/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20923 ) just now and he can get me a new prop for €110, so I'll probably go for that (unless any new information comes to light today) seeing as he comes highly recommended, was straight back to me, reasonable, helpful and I'd rather keep my business 'local'. Now need to get it organised to get down here. Anyone from that neck of the woods heading to Cork in the next few days.... or I'll have to arrange a courier.

never used them my self but they quote about £65 for a new prop (I guessing at the exact spec but the price wont change much. or they will repair for about £30 turn around time 3-4 days
