Smoothhound help for 2012?

Fri Jan 27, 2012 8:49 pm

Hi all, I've added smoothhound to my wishlist this year as I've never caught one or even considered travelling south to give them a go. I honestly have no idea where to try or what time of year might give me the best chance of latching into one? Any advice would be very much appreciated :)

Wicklow and wexford beaches in June-september would be your best bet. Simple pennel pulley rigs, 3/0 hooks and peeler crab should see you right. Ragworm is also very good. Try to fish a big incoming tide from dusk into darkness. That's about all I know but I'm sure the smoothaholics on this site can give a lot more advice!

hi man. your more than welcome to head down with us next summer when they start to show in good numbers. i usually try and get a few lads togeather from the north and head down with the dublin and wicklow lads for a crack at them. the fishing is normally top notch and the craic is mighty too :D :D . the lads always look after us well and do their best to put us onto the fish. top blokes 8) 8)
