Try making up a post code or if that doesn't work change your address a little until it accepts your request. I had some probs too but got there in the end!

Hope this helps.

Re the above, been thinking: Should this site now have a petition assembling function of its own, rather than have to do it via a third party site? That way we can be identified directly as members of the Irish sea angling community, first-rank stakeholders in the issues we are concerned about, not just more names on a fairly anonymous international list. (And good as the third party sites are, I suspect they might be classified as crank sources by the recipients).

This site now has over 5000 actual members, and more again visiting it regularly. That's a big voice. It's been in existence for over a decade, and I'm a bit surprised that some kind of serious pressure group hasnt evolved out of it so far. Maybe its time to move beyond being the Joe Duffy Show of angling and get really active. Our own petitions would be a start.

JD, can it be done?

That's a very good film from 2003. I would hazard a guess as to say that any scientists from IFI, Marine Institute and BIM with real credit and who are willing to speak up about the drastic effects of sea lice on wild salmon and sea trout are long gone or else don't get to speak publicly any more.

Terribly sad! :(
Protect the magical sport of sea angling and spread the word that conservation is the way forward. Put fish back!!!!

Just got the following mail from the Marine Institute. I had great admiration for them and really respected their research and took their word as gospel, but after what they has to say about the proposed fish farm then I got a little suspicious of them. Now I am of the firm belief that they, BIM and the minister are all in to one place, that being well and truly anti angling and very much pro fish farming, suppose it should not be any surprise. The institute need the money for their research and a little one sidedness will see them OK for a good number of years, the fact that they ignore well proven research and be economical with the truth, is just something coincidental and of no importance.

Marine Institute and Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to co-fund food research

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has announced a call for marine research projects relating to Food Innovation, Food Processing Technologies and Food for Health. Researchers in higher education institutions and research institutions and on the island of Ireland are invited to submit proposals under the Food Industry Research Measure (FIRM) in an initiative jointly funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Marine Institute.

The recent announcement by DAFM for research proposals under the Food Industry Research Measure (FIRM) reflects the importance of maximising Ireland’s potential to exploit the commercial potential of our natural resources. In a continuation of collaboration between DAFM and the Marine Institute to co-fund strategic research, this FIRM programme includes a dedicated call for marine origin foods research; seeking to build on the investment made by both parties to the marine functional foods research initiative - NutraMara.

Ireland’s Research Prioritisation Exercise identified 14 strategically important research areas including Sustainable Food Production and Processing, and Food for Health. The co-funding of research in these areas by the Marine Institute and DAFM, in addition to supporting the marine foods strategic research agenda of Food Research Ireland, reflects a collaborative approach by funding agencies to support strategic research.

Food Harvest 2020 sets out a road map for growing the agri-food and fisheries sector over the next decade and sets ambitious targets for many sectors of the wider industry. The report also recognises the vital role research will play in underpinning that growth and helping to achieve the targets. Furthermore, research is viewed as a central enabling action, in support of the development of the marine economy, in the Government’s Integrated Marine Action Plan for Ireland (Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth).

The new research funded by joint FIRM-MI contributions will support Ireland’s goals to maximise the potential of the marine environment as a source of new food products and food ingredients. There is a strong expectation by the joint funders that research proposals will both build on existing projects and further develop collaboration between institutions in the area of marine foods related research. The closing date for submissions to this FIRM-MI call is 7th May, 2013. Full details of the specific research projects in this call are to be found at: http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/research/ ... luscoford/

More about the use of chemicals/medicines in fish farming, see here http://www.fishupdate.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/19253 If the people who eat the rubbish food called "Organic Farmed Salmon" what a laugh that is the words farmed fish and organic are just not compatible, read enough about them they would not be eating them, parasites and illnesses, full of anti biotics and God only knows what, then there is the adding of the banned, in foodstuff, E161g, all to make the flesh of the fish look like a wild salmon and not grey like it would without the use of it. It should also be remembered that fish with all the ailments they have are sold to the public, nothing is wasted, fish with open sores are cut in a manner that removes the ulcerated portion and sold at full price to unsuspecting members of the public.

On the off chance that anyone missed the great news that we have had, with regard to the IFI report, here is the link to download the same. http://www.fisheriesireland.ie/index.ph ... 330&Itemid

It is great reading for any angler and a huge kick in the goolies to Coveney and BIM, wonder if the money will have to be repaid?
