dont think conger are protected and as for eating if they are
done right they have a very good taste :?: a friend of mine
makes fish cakes out of them

Last week i got half meter long conger in Ballycotton, first time i cooked it and it was lovely.
Will bring them home again if i catch any more :)
Best way to eat them is actually to make a marinade with salt, pepper and vinegar into glass can and seal it after. And eat it after 1-2 months on a sandwich.

Is this a Fish forum or a Cookery forum? Seems more like an ICA meeting comparing recipes ! :lol:

Most of the charter boats here in Cork Harbour don't allow conger to be taken as it is one of the few species left that the commercial sector have little or no interest in so we kinda view them as a safety net to fall back on in times of heavy commercial activity. One small commercial boat spent a few months lining conger here a good few years back and believe me it's effects were very noticeable and it took conger numbers a long time to recover from. :wink:
