Maybe those lucky enough to have Bass on their doorsteps that feel annoyed about the close season and the continuation of illegal netting could go out and gather some evidence of the illegal activities to pass on to the relevant authorities. I have to travel at least 200 miles to have a good chance of a bass and now I have been alerted to illegal fishing in the area i will most likely travel down over the close with the camera to explore more ground at low water and look for evidence of illegal fishng that i can document. If every bass angler in the country did that you might get the fisheries boards to take notice.

Waterkeepers! But then I have already wasted my breath talking about that it seems.

Firsty can I say fair play to anyone that puts in that kind of time trying to catch illegal netting.... It can be a very un-rewarding task. I just wish as many anglers put in that kind of effort, rather than coming on-line at critising other anglers and conservationists about catching Bass even when not trying. As Teacher mentioned, there is a bit of a myth about Bass. If they are there, then it is very likely that you will catch them. I'm sure many hundreds will be caught by accident during the Ban by people flounder fishing, spinning for Sea Trout or otherwise. I just hope that half of them are as responsible and conservation minded as a few of the guys on this site. Unless we Ban Angling alltogether, then in some parts of the country, especially trhe South and South West, Bass will be caught while guys are fishing. Please put your efforts into scouting for illegal activities and reporting any you find, rather than coming on-line and taking pot shots agains't people you are trying their best to avoid catching Bass during the close season.

last yr. i made/developed traces that reduced the bass catch by 80/90% while targeting bream we will be useing them. i fished the cunn. last wk. for br. had 2 and no bass.
i fished next nite for bass had 20+
also the tactics for targeting br. are different to those for bass.
also theres not ONE person in the country that can say when bass start and stop spawning
from march to august a lot of bass seem to be in spawnin condition so all those that are worried about BASS shoud not fish for them dureing this time. o.k.

Superb work on the traces and tactics Arthur, maybe you could share them with everyone as alot of us seem keen to use methods that would avoid Bass during the close :D:D

I dont know what all the fuss is about, judging by half of the catch reports on this site the bass have nothing to worry about regardless of the ban or not...!!! :lol:

Yeah, well, I kinda answered my own question about where in Wicklow or Wexford you can avoid catching bass. The answer is anywhere near me. ;) My final fling last night was a complete washout. Literally. It poured.
