I liked them when i saw them too - they are nearly invisible when in the water and have a nice profile/flash and they tend to 'dissappear' when turning. The material is strange and takes a bit of getting 'used to'. You will notice its possible to create different profiles with the material as the first two fotos demonstrate - the blue and white deceiver is on a 1/0 for scale.
Behind and in between the material is a flat circular piece of lead folded over the hook shank into a semi-circle - this changes the presentation and depth etc - hook up/down. The material holds zero water but the eyes are not the toughest. I wouldnt say they are the best tied flies in the world but they catch..
i have seen squid and fish profiles - and have asked the Co. to make me a 'flat' pattern in a tan colour.
Tom never got a chance to go up North. After a disastrous start to my season (june early july) i was playing catch up with re-schedules and then the fishing just took off and stayed that way - i'd love to get up there to make some photos, meet some people and do some fishing - its a DEFINITE for next year.
Will be trying fishing two of the smaller flies (one on a dropper) in the third pick today - will let you know what happens

Hi Jim,
I tie flies very similar to these. They are used a lot on the US east coast for Striped Bass. They call them bunker flies. I tie mine out of Awesome Hair... As you say, the eyes don't last long. Didn't get out much this year, so have not caught on them. Do you want a couple more to try?

M
heres me thinking that awesome hair is something that Amy Winehouse suffers from...many thanks for the offer of the flies..to be honest if i accept any more flies into this house i'll have to re-locate the children - so please send me two in a brown envelope - E will think its just another bill!
i'll fish with them as soon as they arrive and make some fotos !
Tell you what though why dont we organise a day or two maybe to get together for next year for all the SWFF'ishers on this site - could be fun!
thanks M

Tom this is the link for the flies - i have seen a lot of stuff on there like the Polaris flies that i havent seen before - i love trying 'new' things and for the prices involved its not too big a risk - the burger boxes are very handy for BIG stuff and cheap too- the bush pig set is particlularly good quality -

Hi Jim,
I was having a quick look at the photos on your website and see that you also do a spot of pike fishing. I've posted in the "pike" fishing section of the forum but it seems to be a very dusty cobweb ridden corner of the forum without much activity. To the point; do you fly fish for pike in the "off bass season" or it is just with plugs? In the chance that you fish for pike via fly, do you have a website that you can recommend for a source of fly patterns or even for purchase.
Any information would be greatly appreciated,
Denis
