Dom,
Unfortunately, the Dublin area is not blessed with good stocks of fish. A fish over 2lb is considered to be a good catch. Many a session here ends in a blank unless you resort to scratching.
Good fishing does not necessarily mean good catches. Sometimes the pleasure of fishing with friends or even meeting new people off the forum can make for a good session.
Some of the lads here have to get out on the bus or train to get to the fishing grounds and this is followed by a long walk to get to a good spot. In no way are you guaranteed of a catch, but something is better than a blank!!
After fishing virtually every weekend, digging or buying the best baits, spending hours making rigs, buying new gear, looking for new spots in all sorts of horrendous weather, the biggest cod i've been able to muster is 2.25lb, the biggest pollack about the same, with the biggest fish being a 3.5lb wrasse. Believe me, I've tried for bigger!!
Last weekend I blanked, the weekend before I only caught a 1.5lb codling which was only lightly hooked and swam away merrily to join the dolphins which were swimming nearby. Still good to be fishing though!!!

Hi Mark,
I'd be up for a fish n meet if its around the northside. I'm free on the weekends. Any where in mind?
John
PS DOM, If you're aware of bigger stuff around, please feel free to share......

That was a nice coalie too , he won €12 for the big fish pool so it was an enjoyable session for him. Dont abuse someones fishing report when you dont make any reports yourself. It is Dublin after all.
Woudn't mind a game of chess dom :

it was a competition Dom!!!! lots of anglers fishing the same beach. i have been told that under these circumstances that catches will not be as good as pleasure catches. well done lads, keep it up.

In competition circumstances you should try one of m.b3's old tricks and bring a bucket of frozen whiting and when no-one is looking, hook one on and lob it out, and then pretend you have found exactly the right spot where all the whiting are feeding and everyone will be really impressed. :D

I want what your taking. Would you not think catches are better in comps, as anglers would be trying harder to win...therefore catch more fish?? Dont know where you got that crazy idea from.
And lads if ye knew how to fish you would probably have better catches. Get a few casting lessons!!!!?? The gannons is fishing really well with some super cod.

the only thing i'm takin is stick from you!!!! i got the 'crazy' idea from a successful matchfisherman. he reckons the numbers of fish are spread between the the numbers of anglers fishing,in theory meaning less fish for each individual angler.
if you want to settle this with a 'cast off', be my guest!

Nice bit of banter boys!! So is there a fish off coming up/ cast off coming up? Dom maybe you will come out with us and show us how its done . A game of chess would go down well too.
