Duration:10:30 - 5

Tide:over low and rising

Weather:breezy (but now as forecast)

Bait:feathers, mack, squid & sandeel

Rigs:feathers, booms and double spreaders

Results:whiting, mackerel, dogfish, red gurnard, octopus

Report:

Met up with smiliejp out at a slipway near carraroe, and after a quick plan of the days fishing we put the boat into the water, heading out of the small bay area the water was slightly choppy so a quick re-think and a change in course as i wasnt too comfortable heading out to deeper water with herself on board and with winds expected to increase later in the evening, go to the mark and set the drift.
It was her first time out on a boat fishing trip so it was also the first time her boat rod got used  yes you read that right, she owns a boat rod!!!
so set up with feathers and my sl30sh and a quick tutorial on how to use the reel she was away fishing.. i set myself up with a single boom and trace baited with mackerel, and i had the first fish aboard with that, then the other two baited their feathers and everyone was catching.. Herself got a very nice red gurnard (i dont even have one of them to my list this year) and some very nice whiting. we reset the drift again this time a bit further on so that we could drift past a land point in hope of some pollock, and again some very nice whiting, then smiliejp hauled up an octopus, first one i have seen being caught, funny little creatures too, as we past the point we were over what seemed to be kelp and a few orange coloured pollock came up.
time passed so we headed back to shelter in the smaller bay area and anchored up in a deep channel, and doggies were plentiful as were spider crabs and one very nice pollock for smiliejp!!
another move further into the bay and loads of small whiting were taking the baits.
all in all a rather fun day.. and her species count has gone up to 15 for this year , not bad as its her first year ever fishing!

sounds like you's had a nice session alright steve, well done.
by the sounds of things herself will soon be the master and not the pupil, her first year fishing and is up to 15 species, and i'm sure there will be more to add before the years out 8)
