Out on my Dads boat for the first time, I only had to close my eyes and brace myself twice. Left from "Murrisk Marina" at 9.30 and through the channel at Bertra. My Mam had come out with us but she wasn't a fan of the waves so my Dad dropped her off at the beach on the dinghy and she walked home! Best for everyone I think!

We had made a plan the night before but as usual with my Dad we didnt stick to it! We tried for mack in a few spots but no joy and I decided to use my 6th or even 7th fishing sense to consult the charts and put us on fish. We went back inland passed Bertra and tried over deep hole in a little bay, Only about 40ft of water. Fish at last doggies on Mack, Steady dogs after that, Got two thornies then, Delighted to have a good wrestle on the new boat rod, I was delighted with myself.Few more dogs there before we decided to try a deeper mark, Got one more thorny at 70ft and a mack arrived on one of the flappers so we rushed to get the feathers in the water. Got 6 mack on one drop but that was it after that! Dougie from a shore thing had told me that there was tope at the channel at the end of Bertra so baited up two mack flappers on the meat hooks. Moored there for a while quite shallow there. No Joy on the tope but brilliant day out. And 6 delicious mack. Into Westport to watch the Queen Tribute Band!
