Had effectively a mini meet in cork, with dezzer, and a couple fo other boats, weather was fantastic so was able to start to see how boat performed with new engines, not disappointed, run well with a new top speed of 32 kts, not that i use that very often.
stopped on the way out in the entrance to the harbour for some herring, and managed a good few for fresh bait, then headed to the lings.
First stop was to get seirt and damiens line pulled with some nice pollock action to the gills, good stamp of fish to 8lbs, often in doubles, so a great start to the day, then went for a few ling and again had some good fish to 7-8lbs.
decided after a couple of hours reef fishing to head for the flat ground, and had a good session picking up a good variety of species, especially for this time of year, nothing big, but plentyful.
opted to head back into the harbour, for damien to catch a few conger, which in 15 mins he had two, and one dropped, so headed off to hit the small stuff, and managed a good few minis, in the last couple of hours in the day.
great day out, and nice to be back up and running again, next trip thursday.
regards

Good stuff lads, and Dezzer and Steyrman as well. We had a pretty poor day of it ourselves with only bits and pieces coming to us on the Lings, plenty of cuckoos and gurnards and a whopper of a whiting with a couple of ling alright but not enough to keep us there. Set off for the "scaldfish mark" which usually throws up a variety of bits and pieces but that wasn't to be either although I did manage a couple of small ling, gurnard and another monster whiting that was close on 50cms.... With the tales of Herring in the harbour and the lures of fresh bait and a tasty tea proving too much to bear, we steamed back to the harbour but that was to no avail either with only the usual pest sized whiting plaguing us. We began the long trip back to Oysterhaven with the combination of wind and tide against us making for a bumpy ride. Hugging close to the cliff faces and with it looking like pure pollack ground, cliffs giving way to 30-50 feet of manky ground we tried a number of approaches, gilling, leadheading and trolling and were rewarded with a handy few big pollack running up to at least 8lbs or so which kind of saved the day really. Best approach was a 2 knot troll with a green and black shad. Tried a patch of shingle a couple of miles off the Sovereigns to no avail. Still, lovely day to be out and nice to establish how many miles I can get out of a full tank when hammering around, (40ish... :D ) Covered around 50 miles on the day all in between travelling and drifting. Less time travelling, more time fishing might have seen a better return but sure cest la vie...
