Split Rock, Howth

Postby IDPearl » Sun Jul 18, 2004 1:42 pm

Fished the right hand side of the split rock from 7am to 11am. Saw a friend fishing balscadden high rocks before I started and he kindly gave me a couple of mackerel for bait. Caught a few macks on feathers myself later, so felt a bit guilty.

Nothing biting on the pulley rig over near the bird colony or over the reef out to sea. Float rig went under a few times using king rag and mackerel, but either I missed the fish or it was just crabs.

Fished closer in on the pulley and got bites straight away. Hooked into my first wrasse, but as it came up to the surface, it chomped through my 15lb flourocarbon snood and disappeared into the depths. Note to self - use stronger snoods!

No pollack today, just 7 macks.
