Baily Lighthouse, Howth, Report

Postby George » Sun May 23, 2004 10:21 pm

Baily Lighthouse, Howth, Sunday 23rd May 2004 11.30am- 8.00pm
Bait: Mackerel, Mussel, Squid, Peeler crab

We started out on the city side today and Jhon 65 had a whiting but the tide quickly rose so we headed back around to the left side. Lack of any worm baits was the major problem of the day and no doggies were caught. Had two dab myself, Jhon 65 had one and SOD got some cracking bites while he was legering for wrasse in the bay but couldn't hook any.
We soon got reports of good pollack further around to the left of the baily just before web's castle rock so we packed up yet again walked up to the gate and over the fence to the right and down a primitive path where we found a nice ledge to fish off. SOD decided to fish a rock just to the left of this and casting towards Web's castle rock he soon had a nice coalie on sandeel and lost another up the cliff. Meanwhile Jhon 65 had a superb 2lb pollack on his first cast with black hokkai's which he took home for the pan, he also took a launce :!: which was a new species for him. No more fish turned up after this as the tide had dropped very low so we called it a day.
