Report:I was confined to Barracks painting the Kitchen all Saturday and Sunday so I had to get out somewhere for a Session

. Fishface was out from the late afternoon so I guessed that by the time I arrived at the Harbour he would have pre baited my fishing area with his various concoctions of rag/lug/ mack

. Being in the good books after all the painting, I got dropped off by my good ladywife at 7-30pm and was instructed to "Have a great time". I headed down to Fishface who, after 3 hours, had already caught a small Dab, and set up my 2 rods. My cheap Aldi Quiver tip was sent out with 2 rag and a 3oz weight towards the other wall of the Harbour and my 5 foot four piece mini rod was dropped down the wall a couple of yards out. A short time later on I had a knock on the Quiver tip and pulled in a small codling.

Fishface was next in with a nice fat pouting from the channel between the walls.

There were a few pouting about, I've noticed that they seem to be more active at low later, as are Shore Rockling, who also made an appearance. Then I also had a small pouting .

Things slowed down for a while then and I tried the Quiver tip in close as well as the mini rod. I had a thump on the Quivertip which turned out to be a nice pollock of 30cms, caught on lug, which was accounting for most of the fish. Fishface was getting the odd pouting and rockling every now and then , steady fishing,,,but there again he's an expert (so he tells everyone

) With him ahead in the numbers game (though my pollock was the stand out fish so far

) I decided it was time for a decade of the Rosary and I cast another big lug bait down below me. This resulted in a decent knock which turned out to be a Nodder of 38cms,,,,,Mondays dinner sorted

This was the last straw for Fishface and he packed up early,,,having only been there for 5 and a half hours

Fair play to him, he gave me some rag which had been given to him earlier by another angler

The Missus collected me at 10-30pm but it was such a nice mild night, we decided to stay a while longer. I put the last of the lug on a 2 hook flapper and dropped it out a few yards. With things going quiet , I decided to pack up and put the mini rod away. Then I started to reel in the quivertip and the rod went ballistic, The fish ducked and dived and I struggled to keep him up and out of the rough bottom but I got him to the surface and lifted up,,,,then the line went slack as he fell off,,,not too surprising as I had a size 6 hook on

. I was gutted as I knew it was a better fish than the codling I had caught earlier. "Why dont you try again, you might catch him",,,I heard the Missus saying

"I won't get HIM again", I answered,"Cos he has a sore lip from that small hook and will be extra careful now

". But I upped the hook size and cast back to the same spot just to please her. The bait was only in the water when BANG,,,,fish on ,,,,and after a short battle I reeled in a nice Pouting, biggest of the night at a porky 27cms

This was a nice fish to end the Session on but I went home thinking about the one that got away,,,,ah well ,,, he's still out there somewhere, and thay say (whoever THEY are

) Fish have got short memories and by the next time I head back he'll have forgotten all about that size 6 hook
