Ballyhornan Co. Down 20/7/13

Mon Jul 22, 2013 2:07 pm

People: Me, Dad & Friend

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Fine light breeze

Bait: Lures, plastics, rockpool caught shrimp/prawn

Rigs: Lures & Float

Results: 2 small Pollack taken on lures. 8 wrasse up to 1 Lb all taken on float fished shrimp/prawn. I scorpion fish on float.

Report: Headed down to an easily accessible rock mark as my Dad is not up to climbing too much these days. On route used a net to collect some shrimp/prawn from various rock pools. I have used these many years ago work very well for wrasse and pollack. Started off lure fishing very poor considering evening incoming tide looked to be perfect conditions for this mark but perhaps overfished as it is well known. Switched to slider float savage bites from the off hard to hit most of them I'd say missed 50%...those wrasse are adept at pinching bait! good fun though.

Fished Ballyhornan myself a couple of times this year and plenty of times last year - blanety blank every trip.
I'll have to find somewhere else, might try Ardglass Golf Course off rocks on Thursday, here's hoping.

I have a feeling many of marks in Ballyhornan have been cleaned out definately fished better in the past. Have not fished Ardglass rocks for a good while always get pestered with seals there good luck beats sitting about the house!
