hi lads,
went out a run last night, i wasnt sure i'd be able to get fishing as our bait hadnt made the trip down the road unfortunatley. lucky enough the other guys got me a "single bag" and i took a run out to meet a few mates.
the lads where well set up by the time i got my finger out so i had a quick chat to them and lifted my worms (cheers boys) and off i went to a really nice looking gulley down the beach, i'd seen this gulley on my way to meet the lads and i was sure a fish would come out of it....well i was right....he wasnt the biggest but its my first this year...its been a slow start this year for me so i decided i was keep this fello for tonights dinner.
i'd been away from my rods for a bit chatting to "the skipper" and took a walk back to my stand, lines where a bit slack even with the grippers on so i gave a few winds on the reels just to take up the slack. i set them down again and went to the car boot to bait up the next traces - these worms where big red wriggly buggers about 10-12inches long, so i'd high hopes of a fish on these.
went back down to my rods with the traces and notice one of them was off down tide - "oh balls" i thought, normally this signifies something has broken the gripper out and tore off down the beach. hung the traces up asap and lifted into whatever was on, "happy days" i thougt, this ones scrapping good!!! played this fish in the surf and got a few nice lunges from it before it came to the shallows. this is when they really liven up!!!
bang bang bang goes the head shakes, "carefull" i kept repeating in my head....fished slowed a bit and with help of the next wave he was on the beach flapping like mad - i love seeing bass, the look awesome so set he rod down, and reached for my disgorger, un-hooked him, briefly checked he was size of my box lid and seeing he was i kept him.
I was one happy chappy - think I even shouted up the beach!!! whoops!!!
this was my only fish but I wasn't complaining, its the start of more to come I hope.
the lads up the beach got a few dropped runs from bass and our resident greenhorn got his first bass too, so he was chuffed and I was chuffed and the others then took up position at respective rod stand to await their fish.
I had to leave early as I only had 5 big worms to use - the others stayed out so they may have had more fish to add.
all in all a quick but very rewarding session.
nice to get out with the "crew" again too.
