Report:its been coming for a long time a trip to greystones nth beach :) it was one of my favourite places to fish back in the 70s and 80s so armed with fresh crab i arrived and was like a young fellow fishing for the first time :D the long walk to where i wanted to go flew in and was soon set up one rod cast out with one hook clipped down and one about 40yds i had the place to myself pure magic 8) then the memories came flooding back this beach was used a lot years ago for ifsa comps and yielded a lot of fish one of my favourite ones was the midsummer night comp run by the borough sac where you could get 200 anglers stretched the full length from greystones to bray head and the weigh in was on the back of a trailer where you could win a bag of spuds or basket of tomatoes :D :D looking over towards the harbour i remember in the late60s getting the 84 bus on a sunday morning in dublin to fish the harbour wall with rag got from the late lilly corrie in the abc fishing tackle shop in little mary st and with mussell we used to get from the boats arriving back into the harbour 8) there was also many a pint drank in the beech house after a days fishing and the usual stories of the ones that got away  did i catch fish today :?: well i did 1 codling 2 flounder several whiting but it was all about visiting an old friend and i kid you not as i was packing up at 5 i saw 2 dolphins or porpoises break the surface about half a mile off shore what a perfect end to a great day ps i on mature recollection it was howth sac who ran the midsummer comp

Nice report and well done on the few fish

On the nostalgia bloody hell even though i am only 34 i remember the good old days with the nice bags of fish and great spirit between Anglers at comps.

Fished the harbor today and landed a few fish (Post report in the morning)but for me the north beach is completely changed

Its still an old friend but one that has had bad cosmetic surgery

My earliest memories of fishin Greystones was in the early 80s and like you mentioned buying bait from ABC :D :D I used to fish where the new harbor is on the left.. it used to be shail ground there and always good to throw up a few decent flats, I got what they called the "new DART" out and used to walk to the harbour.

Still with all the work done there I cant wait for the ground to settle and see what fish it brings in..@ fisherman59, thanks for sharing those memories!!

Wow that report brings back a lot of memories ,both fishing and especially great characters from
the greystones ridge ,so many stories i would not know where to start . The fishing was fantastic
you used to be spoiled for choice ,in the late 70s and 80s i remember catching cod out at the molditch up to 15 lb in fact cod were everywhere in g/stones .or you could go to the breaches boy
and target and catch blond and thornback ray and always catch at least i double figure fish ,but not
anymore........ no cod.... no ray... no plaice .... Thank god we still have our tope :D :D

yes brought back lots of good memories of my misspent youth. comps on a sunday bait digging on a saturday.oilskins all wet and sandy and a mile walk to a peg. rod ,bag ,bait bucket, big steel jigger, waders.its no wonder i was a skinny whippit back then  but some lovely fish . i remember a comp been won on kilcoole beach with a huge black sole most beautiful fish i had ever seen looked as if it had been hand painted .i wonder when there has been one seen on the east coast in the last 10yrs?

God be with the days ,the grey shed the hottest spot on the south beach, first and second rivers, great pegs in any comp, then there was the bend in kilcoole the big tree ,still standing till this day ,do you remember the bags of fish caught on that stretch, god how we ffd up,they could still be there today, only for mans greed for money you know its realy sad how destructful we are, with not a thought for the future, our childrens and our grandchildren ,most of them wont see a 10 lb cod, or a 2lb plaice or a bass for that matter if nothing is done sharpish,so lads let our voices be heard when need be,so there will be memories ,for there kids guys god i have lovely memories of those days  8) so jd what can we do yours truly the coyser fishing since that time when there were fish by golly 8) chuck is that you :?: help
