Got up early last Weds 17th and headed off. Arrived at 10 am - tide fully out.
Nice day for fishing though, overcast, warm and an offshore breeze.
Parked in the car park, planned on a walkabout to get my bearings, just took a spinning rod and a few lures and walked to the very end of the spit (about 25 minutes). Turned right at the end of the spit and walked along the shore - casting as I went. Lots of little mullet chasing sprats - a little further along I could see nice sized silvery things in the water - hhmmm - bass !
Put on my super duper bass bullet - looks great, casts better, caught nothing .
Changed to an old Abu Koster 40g (silver spoon type lure) and BANG - straight away I caught a 2 pounder at about 60 yds out. Caught 3 more around 2 pound each over the next hour - all 50 to 70 yds from the shore. They give a great fight on light tackle - I was using a Daiwa 11' spinning rod, a Penn Prion 7400 spinning reel and 12 lb line - great sport. They really hit the spinner hard - all four of them had all 3 hooks in their mouth - luckily the hook was easy enough to remove with doing any obvious damage - all fish returned safely.
Back to the car at 1 pm for a sambo and cup of tea.
Went ground fishing with rag for the afternoon - just by the wooden stakes back along the beach - blanked, nothing for the rest of the day.
Now I know these were just schooling bass and 2 pounds is quite small but they were my first bass, well pleased I was !
Best Regards
Aidan

It's a bit of a donkey trot for me to get there - 3.5 hours there and 3.5 hours home again, but I plan to get a day in September there.
I'll definitely get some flying C's - tell me, do you dig the lug right there on the beach ?
I spotted that rocky/weedy area when the tide was out - will setup there next time.
A 12 pounder would make my year, but still, I'm just as happy once I'm out and about with a rod in my hand !
Off up the east coast this Saturday for a recce - Co Meath and Louth.
Kind regards
