People: me and fishy1987
Time: ...
Tide: high @ 17.49
Rigs: 3/0 pennels
Bait: Razor and peeler
Weather: Beautiful for this time of year

Hit the mark to meet fishy who was there a few hours before me. Got set up and cast out to catch up with fishy who was on 8 fish already i think. nothing big but a few fish on the deck so i had to make a good start. I started to get into the small codling too and fishy pulled in the biggest codling of the session, so far, around the pound mark. He had a few more smaller fish before he had to run for the bus. I had a bit of bait left so i stuck it out for a while. The fishing carried on the same till about 8 when i got a good bite and struck into a fair enough scrap till it went to ground. Pulled to get it free and cracked my leader knot. I had no more shock leader with me so i change to my multiplier reel which was ready to go but i'm still not up to scratch with the multis and not too fond of using them in the dark. I got the bait back out anyway and was into another fish within 5 mins. Same as last time the fish went to ground and i snapped off trying to free it. My other two reels now had no shock leader and with the tidal run calling for a 5oz lead i wasn't goin to chance casting with no leader. A quick root around the car boot unearthed some 100lb shock leader. On it went as i wanted a few more casts. Not yet used to the multiplier, i forgot to place the knot to the side of the spool. Dunno if anyone ever got caught by a 100lb leader knot but it's not nice. Sat down to have a smoke and was almost immediately into another fish. Got this one up thank god, and weighed in at 1lb 3oz. Back he went and at this stage i was after packing all the gear away so i hadn't even bait elastic with me. The scruffy little sliver of razor that i just pulled out of the codlings gob went back out and i sat down for a break. It wasn't long before the tip was getting good strong tugs so i lifted into it and knew it was a better fish. It fought the whole way up to the pier. I wasn't worried about losing it on the way up due to the 100lb shock so i just swung him up to my feet. Weighed in at 2lb 9oz. Packed up the gear and headed off. Gave fishy a buzz on the way home to rub it in and that was that. Can't wait to get back out tonight. Didn't have the camera with me so only got a picture of the fish i took home.

Tight lines,
Evan

Well done again Evan, very nice cod, that thumb is a sore one with 70 lbs leader, never mind 100, I use tapered leaders now and it is a much better way to cast and reel in again less chance of picking up a lot of weed on the smaller knot. Suppose you are out there now hauling them in again.

Regards Wez

Cheers lad. The session was actually a bit slack until this fish but it was a fine way to round off the night.

I'd usually try to present bait as best i can too but i had no choice with the last bait so i thought what harm could it do. Obviously none.

Cheers. My mother works wonders with the camera. It does look bigger in the photo but it was 2.9 on the button on a reliable digi scales. The fish threw up before i got him on the scales though so he did weigh a little bit more when he came out of the water.

The water was so murky they were just following scent and hitting anything in their path i'd say. We were out last night and it was bloody nasty alright. Winds of 110km forecast for the weekend and rain so there should be savage fishin when the storm passes. Surf beach later next week?

I usually use tapered leader too but that session was spur of the moment so i ended up packing f all. A chunk missing out of mu thumb is well worth it for a few fish like that.
taz wrote:nice session cracking fish

Cheers taz. Hopefully we can tempt a few more to our hooks before they desert the shores. Stock up the freezer till the mack are back. I don't see one of the smileys licking their lips but if there was one i'd put it in here. :D

Cheers fishy but you had me well outfished last night. Even if you did lose everything in your possession and stab me  Gonna be savage fishing for a few days after this storm blows over i'd say. 8)
