Hello everybody!
Myself and Codswollop fished Donaghmore beach on Thursday night/Friday morning 30th June/1st July 2005.
High tide was 5:00 on the evening of Thursday and 5:00 on the morning of Friday.
We started fishing at about 6 o'clock on the Thursday evening.
We started by going for a walk on the rocks to the right of the beach spinning and plugging for bass with a dexter wedge and fairly large surface popper.
We didn't catch one.
However, we did give up after 20 mins because of the looming rain cloud and our lack of rain gear.
We went down to courtown for some burgers, sausages and chips and returned to the beach and set up for a night's bait fishing.
We were using a variety of baits that included rag, frozen lug, mackerel, peeler crab and small frozen sandeel.
Because of our crap casting skills our range was limited to about 70 to 80 yards at best.
We were using 2 hooked rigs.
All baits landed dog fish (about 17 between us).
The rag was responsible for landing 2 small dabs and 2 small smoothhound.
This was my first smoothound and also Codswollop's.
They were very small but the two of us were delighted to add to our species list.
As with all our trips all fish were returned alive!!!!!
Until the next report,
Take care and Good luck.
