Toberpatrick, Wexford, June 16 2010

Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:30 pm

People: Me

Duration: 4-8:30

Tide: Low at about 7

Weather: Warm and Sunny

Bait: Lug, Rag, Mackeral and Sandeel

Rigs: flappers, 2 hook loop

Results: Plenty of flounder and dabs

Report: I had intended to fish Courtown north beach but it was busy so I moved on to Toberpatrick. Fish came at all ranges mainly to lug tipped with mackerel and sandeel. One hungry flounder took a mackeral/sandeel sausage.

Could be an expensive trip, oil sump well busted. I'll find out tomorrow if I pulled over to the side of the road in time....

nice fishing jd. i always find the beach flattie fishing sessions really relaxing. and by the sounds of it you will need a bit of relaxing after a broken sump   i just hope you did' nt have to drive it too far without oil in the top half of the engine man or it could end up being pretty costly :(

I was over that way last night and saw the trail of oil when I was leaving and thought someone has had a spot of bother

Thanks lads, its a TDi so even if engine doesn't seize turbo could be busted. Or they might fix up the sump, fill engine with oil, and all is ok...
I talked to a mechanic and apparently its common enough on Octavias, Passats and Golfs - there isn't a hell of a lot of clearance..

There is 4ins clearance from sump to ground not a lot when you consider some of the bumps on the roads. If its any consolation JD i done my sump a number of years ago on an octavia when going crabbing i went over a small rock a heard a crack and stopped the car immediately "lucky" it was pi**ing oil, i was able to do a repair in place with some aircraft sealant. There are some nice bumps on the lane going into toberpatrick they really show up when driving back with your headlights on.

Lesson learned, Octavia is a great car for hauling loads of gear (ask taxi drivers) , not suited to rough ground at all. Great for long distance fishing going over clean ground!

No wonder Wexford has so many Blue Flags when access to the beaches is so bad. That's of course if it was on the way to the beach it happened? You think the fella that owns that big house in your pic would have sorted it out. Seeing that he has redeveloped most of the docks by now!

Looks like I may have got away with it! I must say many thanks to Gareth in Castletown Motors (on the way to Kilmichael Point) who sorted a tow, mechanic etc late on a Wednesday evening...

From what the lads are saying about the amount of oil I sprayed around, Toberpatrick won't be getting a Blue Flag any day soon!

Might be worse: you could have Barack Obama on your back and be $18 billion in the hole :D
