Well done seanie   they are lovely bass. Crab seems to be the bait to use down in Waterford, I've never had much luck on it. It all depends on where your fishing of course.
Do you collect your own crabs or buy them from somewhere?

You gotta 'match the hatch.' Although, crab will produce all year round, it is particularly effective around the times of the big peel as bass gorge themselves on the readily available food.

Good fishing btw Seanie 8) .

Well done Seanie,
What size were they?
Were you fishing the western/right hand end of one of the usual haunts? If so - then it was me at the eastern end!!
I had three small bass, largest was 42 cm but the other two were undersize schoolies - only about 35 cm. Interestingly I had crab on one rod and lug on the other - didn't get a bite all night on the crab but had all the bass and a couple of codling on the lug.

Yes I was back there last night too - but not much of a surf and quite a bit of kelp so I didn't stay long - but long enough to get another small bass :D :D Again it took the lug, nothing on the crab.

It just goes to show you Frank, you can never tell what they are gonna take on the night.
That's why your always better having a couple of different types of bait with you, incase one isn't producing very much.
I've always preferred lugworm to anyother bait for Bass - the only pain is having to dig it!! - back breaking stuff for someone small like me

I normally use lug or lug/razor for bass myself - but crab seemed to be producing some good bass last week in the West Waterford/East Cork area so I made sure I had a good supply - the crab certainly worked for me last Sunday night on a different beach.

I might get some and try them on my next trip and see how I go. You tend to get stuck on a couple of baits and because they work you don't try new baits incase they aren't any good so it would be interesting to see how I get on with them.
I'll just have to source myself some now for freezing. I'll make sure I have the razor and lug too though incase they aren't any good.
