Bait stops

I put this on another thread so may as well include it here.

Most anglers incorporate some sort of bait stop to stop bait running up their snood line. However there is also a very simple way of stopping bait flying off the hook when casting.

Simply bait up as usual, then get an elastic band (must be thicker than the hook diameter) and place it over the hook point and past the barb. Trim it so that approx 2 or 3 millimetres are showing either side. This acts as a cushion when casting and keeps the bait intact. It can also help to keep bait on the hook when fishing in very strong tides.

squid strip

I often buy a large squid from the supermarket and cut it up into strips 4-5cm by 1cm. A big squid is very thick, 2-4mm, and I often use a small square to the same effect.
