Hi
I have just got a garcia 6500 multiplier for x mas but i have never used a multiplier before
i tried to use it and i found that the spool seems to turn faster than the line can go also when reeling in i know you have to use your thumb to move line from side to side but i need to know how often do you move line across
hope these questions make sense ive used a fixed spool reel all my life and i wanted a change as i cant seem to cast very far

have you checked that the brake blocks are fitted to the reel mate?at one end of the spool there is a washer type thing with two prongs on it these hold the brake blocks so fit them large for big brakeing small for small amount of brakeing.the moment you put line on the reel it should be put on from side to side when you reel in side to side and try and keep it as flat as possible.if the brake blocks are fitted you will have to use a heavier oil to do the bearings with to slow the reel.hope this helps john

But the reel you had (fixed spool) is not affecting your casting distance! The distance will be reduced by your method of casting, ie. you casting style, more than anything else!
Are you just doing an over-head cast, off the ground, or are you trying to swing the lead around?
Your rod will also play a big part - length and flexibility affect the rod's ability to compress and spring the lead out.
Your line may also play a part if it is too old or too thick!

I live in Naas and while I'm no expert I use multiplier reels for half my fishing, if you live near and want to meet to discuss the setup give me a PM and we can arrange it.
