Kayak(s): Ocean Torque

Duration: 5 hours 12.00- 17.00

Tide: 17.20

Weather: sunny with light S breeze

Bait: Lure....feed shallow

Results: 18 bass :D :D

Report: Headed out in kayak at 12.00. Usually with the torque I cruise slowly along while spinning. This allows me cover as much ground as possible. At 13.20 the rod was nearly wrenched out of my hand and a fantastic battle ensued for about 5 minutes. The kayak was towed around during the battle before I Landed a nice plump 4.5 Lb bass. :D :D

In the distance the terns were beginning to screech and after a while they were diving like mad about 1km away but actually quite near the shore. I belted towards them and slowed down when I was about 50M away. The next hour could only be described as total lunacy as I landed bass after bass after bass...... in total 16. :P :D In the first 6 casts I landed bass. In fact I nearly landed 7 as a boss tried to grab the lure from the mouth of a fish that I was landing. Then the shoal disappeared.

I trolled up and down the shore for a while but "only" landed one more bass. :) :)

Most of the bass were schoolies between 1.5-2.5lb. However 5 fish were 3.5-5lb in weight. All but 2 were returned. I kept 2 for the dinner as we had guests.

What a day.

Back out the following day and conditions were not so nice. The wind was strong and blustery and I only landed 2 bass. :D :P

Thanks for the comments lads. I think that a kayak is the way forward for some venues. :D :D A huge amount of ground ( sorry sea) can be covered and the bass do not take fright like they do with a boat. I was right in among the shoal and they paid no heed at all to the kayak. I could even see them chasing the lure at times.

If anybody is down this way and wants to try a session just let me know. I have a spare kayak. At the moment the winds are crap and look to be that way for the next week. The tides will be good again in 2 weeks time and I hope to get another crack at some serious bass from the kayak.
