Holding a Comp at this time of year on the Wicklow Beaches is nonsensical....
The Wicklow beaches are FULL of weed and are near to unfishable and always are at this time of year.
After the hardship endured at this comp last year on all entrants especially the Young anglers some of whom were unable to fish ! , you would think the organisers would put more thought into choosing a venue suitable for all !

Yes! my arms are still hurting from last year.

i cant believe this comp is being held on this beach again in sept. we only have to travel a few extra miles past wicklow head were we all could enjoy a days fishing. entries are poor enough without picking a venue like this. were trying to encourage juniors to the sport and by picking this venue they cannot fish weres the sense in that.

I along with others have informed the organisers we will not be attending if the Venue is not changed.
Maybe with enough complaints , common sense will prevail !

I always fish the Leinster League but unfortunately this time I will have to give it a miss.
My boy is eight and I have been trying to encourage him to fish this year
but the weed in Wicklow will sadly make it impossible for him to manage.
Seems to fly in the face of all common sense.
Thankfully his football will be starting again soon.

Delighted i gave this a miss !
Turned out EXACTLY the way it was forecast , i.e.
A DISASTER !Tons of weed same as last year ...
TOTALLY UNFISHABLE after the first 50 minutes.
Plenty of blanks.
Anglers leaving well before the final whistle.
And obviously, Not a lot of fish
In a time of dwindling numbers attending competitions and with the ongoing effort made by many to increase the interest of
YOUNG ANGLERS to this sport, it's a shame that the opinion ,concerns and advice of a lot of anglers was meet by deaf ears !
Young anglers attempted to fish this competition, they reportedly had an absolute nightmare and some left after 2 hours
I wonder how long it will be till they want to fish a competition again ???
Our
YOUNG ANGLERS are the future of this sport, Organisers of all competitions
SHOULD be doing all they can to accommodate them, leaving this competition go ahead
KNOWING the conditions awaiting
IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH !!It would have been a simple task and
COMMON SENSE to change to a venue where all could have enjoyed their day out.
Rant Over,
Dave.

i could not agree more. this was predicted and its was a sad sight to see young anglers packing up after a few hours. lets not be fooled by the few fish that were caught. this was the wrong venue at this time of the year. to pick this venue 2yrs in a row is mind numbing. picking this venue meant juniors and lets not forget old age pensioner,s could not fish and that,s simply wrong lads. you can bury your head in the sand and make excuse,s about easterly winds for the week and a earlier starting time as i heard y,day but there poor excuse,s. we all paid good money to enter and the least you expect is to be able to fish for 5hrs. rant over

Fished this competition yesterday and the weed was horrendous, pulled a mussel in my back and aggravated an old groin injury, me and mister Difene are now best of buddies for a week.
Never again!!!!!!!!

During the week I had considered fishing this competition but one look at the weather forecast I changed my mind east-southeast winds for a few days before the match, having fished the Wicklow beaches in the past I had a feeling that the weed would make the fishing very difficult.
So on Sunday morning I packed up the car and headed for the Slob bank in Youghal, the fishing was OK and the comp was won by Cliff Gallogly with 10 fish.
Having read the posts about Wicklow it looks like I made the right decision, 5 hours of hauling weed is not my idea of fishing .
I know competition organisers can not do anything about the weather but it was plain to see for a few days before how this competition was going to turn out.

I fished at this competition on Sunday. I had a puncture on the way down, a swan parked itself in front of my sons peg , a seal came visiting, it rained, and the weed made fishing difficult. I also had 3 juniors with me ranging from 7 to 14 years old. I was well prepared with hot drinks and sandwiches. We had several breaks to warm up and made the best of the conditions. My 10 year old son fished for nearly 4 hours not 2 and I had to drag him off the beach because of the weather. If a ten year old boy is willing to stand in the wind and rain in the hope of catching something I can’t understand what some seniors are whinging about. We live in Ireland and unfortunately the weather doesn’t always co-operate. I appreciate the time and effort the organizers put into this event and the other events they organise, lets hope they continue. My boys and I are fishing next weekend and will be back for the next competition.
As for encouraging young juniors, if your fishing beside a young junior and you’re catching fish, walk over and explain to them what you’re doing and what bait to use. Don’t leave a kid on a beach to blank.
This works with my boys. They caught some great fish this year because other anglers took an interest, gave them the right bait and showed them what to do.

i think your missing the point. the weed has nothing to do with the weather its the time of the year for that venue. if we had of fished a beach south of wicklow head the juniors could have fished in comfort. whats the point in holding an open competition when its not possible to fish. i have been fishing competitions for the past 25yrs and im not moaning im stating a fact that the beach was unfishable. i saw your young lad fishing his heart out and i take my hat off to him. im not knocking the lads for running the competition either but with their experience they should have seen this coming. glad to hear you and the young lads will be back for more.

The whole point is that Seniors & Juniors did not have to endure this competition, yes weather does not always co-operate but this comp was never going to be any different , most of those Wicklow beaches are unfishable due to weed at this time of year and always have been, the first post against this venue was on the 26th of August.. if only the lotto was as predictable !
The organiser is fully Responsible ,and was given options by other clubs & anglers such as " North Beach Wicklow " which is only 15 mins down from the check in and would have been weed free, but due to arrogance and "A not going to be told what to do attitude" it was stubbornly left at Kilcoole.

I could not agree more, It's a habit all Seniors should get into...

The Leinster recorder gets the results from the club. He updates the League table and emails them to me. When I have some time, I update the Leinster site, and post a link here.
Clubs are welcome to post full Open results in the "Clubs and Competitions" forum
