...and by way of blurp, here is some background info (that I prepared earlier...last year in fact):
If you're contemplating an angling break in 2010 why not consider the Cobh International Deep Sea Angling Festival. This festival is held over 4 days in the second week in Sept. Fishing is both within and outside Cork Harbour and, as you will have noted from various posts on this forum, the standard and variety of fishing is quite exceptional.
Cobh SAC are hosting the annual International Deep Sea Angling Festival in Cobh and this will be the 44th year that we have hosted such an event.
This is an ideal fishing break which combines competitive angling with great craic. There is a very strong international flavour with anglers and teams coming from Holland, Germany, Belgium, England, Scotland, and Wales. Many of these anglers have been coming back year after year.
The craic and banter during the week is excellent and the fishing, as noted above, is also excellent, no matter what weather conditions prevail. By way of example, in August 2008 we hosted the EFSA European Line Class & Boat Championships. On the first day the weather was atrocious with driving rain and high winds. Despite this, though, all competitors were able to fish in comfort in the confines of Cork Harbour. Not only that, but the fishing was quite good. There were 1,026 fish landed between 180 anglers with a total of 17 different species. Now that’s impressive! Over the next four days the weather allowed fishing over the many famous reefs outside the Harbour. A further 5,687 fish were landed and a further 6 species were recorded. Many of these were good quality conger, ling, pollack, etc.,… In amongst that were also 58 cod, many of a good size.
With fishing like this it would be well worth your while to book a place for yourself, or for a group of you to fish as a team. Rest assured you will have a week that you won’t forget and I’m quite sure that the competition will become a regular feature of your fixtures list. Closing date for entries will be 1st August 2010.
