Sorry for not coming back sooner Jimmy....I was out building a snowman

. I've just clarified this with the club secretary. This will be strictly a light line comp. This means that rigs will have to be 15lb aswell. The comp will be run along similar lines to the EFSA European Championship light line comp.

No restrictions on bait Jimmy so you can bring what you want. Crab and lug would be your best options. Mind you during the National fish offs in Nov ragworm was scoring quite well, as did mack which picked up a fair few of the codling

. Sometimes you can do well with mussel...I'll leave it upto you.

Well you're after proving that the cod are still about in numbers. I reckon all fishing should run up big numbers of codling.

Entrys for this comp are filling up fast lads and the fishing is pretty good at the moment so it should be a good day. See you there.

We've a second boat booked for this comp and have a few spaces left on this, so if anyone is interested drop me a pm.
By the way the storm doesn't seem to have upset the fishing. I called down to the pier head tonight and there were two lads there who had had 18 codling between them. That bodes well for the fishing Sunday.

any results on this comp it looks like an interesting format! the 15lb traces seem like a good recipe for tangles!
Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:14 pm
I'll put up a detailed report later on, but here's a taster
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25508. 15lb line format made it very interesting....imagine trying to make up a three hook rig with 15lb line

. Tangles, though, were few and far between

Pat, I was surprised to see you had to use only 15lb max line for traces.
under the rules of any light line competition I have ever fished, I.G.F.A, E.F.S.A etc you are allowed to use a shock leader up to twice the length of the rod, and your end gear or traces can be of whatever material and B.S line that you need, ie: 200lb biting trace for conger.
fishing with light line for large species is skillful enough without handicapping yourself.

hi dave just to add to your post we fished a comp a few years ago were main line was 15 lb on a reef one of the guys landed 12 strap congers he was using 180 shock leader. some of the lads complained about this but as was pointed out his main line was 15 lb none of them had taught of it. he won on the weight after he tied with the same number of fish but better weight opened a few eyes on light line comps .

Dave to be honest we are still only experimenting. I'd be very interested in learning more and if you could send me on rules that you have used in the past I would very much welcome it. We intend to hold at least two more, one in Feb and one in March, and if we could improve the format it would be great.
I did think, however, that the light line in the EFSA European Championships in the harbour two years ago was also for rig bodies. I was under the impression that day that all line (main line, rig body, snoods, etc.,..) was 15lb

.
Having said that we had good fun, despite the handicap and I don't think anyone lost a fish
