hey lads,
am heading out of crosshaven saturday morning to deep water and i was just wondring would i need to bring bigger guns,i have a penn 180 for light fishing and penn 4/0 senator for 5olbs class fishing and rods to suit,am just wondring would this be adequate
supposedly theres still a few blue sharks hanging around out at his mark, somethin got to do with a warm current methinks.is there a need for a bigger reel and rod,i have a penn 114h 6/0 senator and a shimano rod thats like a shovel handle, would i need it?
is there any lads on here that use 6/0 reels or is it just overkill?
any replies appreciated...
cheers

4/0 Reel loaded with 30lbs Mono would be adequate for Blue Sharks. Just make sure you have plenty of line. Surprised to hear there's still blues around. Getting enough Mackeral might be an issue at the moment. If you're bottom fishing I'd suggest a rod and reel capable of fishing at least 12oz of lead, and a fast retrieve of at least 5:1 will make your life easier. IMO 6/0 reels are not really required in Ireland.

Hope this helps.

cheers rob.all 3 reels were sent bck from the states for me and not once have i loaded up the 6/o...the shimano rod for it would defo take 12oz,i'll pair it up with the 4/o,see how i get on.yeah i thought it strange too that they are still around seeing as they come in closer to shore with the warmer weather, but yeah supposedly a couple are hanging around still..tomorrow will tell all.
cheers for the help :)
