on a good day with light westerlies how would the 2hp be up to the job? or should i just wait maybe til nxt year when hopefully i might have more money

thanks

It has as much to do with the experience of the skipper as the vessel! You could fish out of a bathtub if the conditions are suitable.

Looking at the charts the Mulditch is not very far out but it looks like you can have tides up to 4knots in the area (I would not be familiar with the area myself).

A good forecast and calm conditions there is no reason why you would not go fishing in your boat. However apart from the wind the effect of tide will always be there. Will a 2hp motor push your boat against a strong tidal flow? If so you have no problem! Would your kit get you home against wind & tide if the conditions deteriorated?

There are guys on here familiar with the area....they'll be along soon...

donal i dont think i would chance it with a`2hp engine no matter what the conditions the mulditch has large currents and can cut up very quickly see http://www.oocities.org/thedirtyfecker2 ... hBank.html was only looking at this.keep the 2 hp as a back up. a 15ft punt has a good weight and would be too much for a small engine to push against a strong tide.

The Dirty Fecker, now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Whatever happened to Luke?

re 2hp engines at sea - I'd be wary of them on a lake, never mind the open sea. Safety first, donal!

I've fished the area a good few times Donal. You would need at least a 10hp on that setup with the tides in the area, even on an ideal day with slack tides you would not push the punt with a 5hp engine into the tide that far out. Having said that, if you had a 5hp you could fish closer in on slack tide without too much hassle. You could offload the 2 for a 5 with out too much of an investment if you were to play it right.
