Hi all

Hi lads I just joined today and I have just started boat fishing but I have no clue were to even start or go any help and tips would ne greatfully appreciated. and would I need to invest in.a fishfinder.

It would help to know where you are located Mark! What have you done to date? What have you caught? What gear are you using? Etc. Etc.

hi Jim Im based in Dublin and he only have done 2 trips so far to howth at Ireland eye were I had plenty of maceral and then I did greystones about 500 yards off the peir but got nothing I have a 30lb boat rod and basic boat reel I wud like ti try for tope but have no clue were to start

Welcome to the site Mark. I boat fish on a regular basis from Dun Laoghaire to Greystones so ask as many questions as you like, bar can I have all your marks?
Give us some more info on what boat you have and what type of fishing your interested in doing.
Maybe throw up a report on how you did on your two trips out.
You will find the more info you put up yourself the more info people will give back to you.

hey mark,a fishfinder is not essential,but can be quite helpfull,i use a compass in me watch and gps on an android fone alot,having to invest myself, but i find if i do come across a good fishing ground/wreck ill scribble the co ordinates down and usually not always,if you catch a a certain species at a certain mark,they'll be there again given the conditions are pretty much the same,tides,wind,pressure,moon etc...
its worked well for me on a couple of big cod marks down here outside the harbour gates...

The Burford bank is worth a try for ray and if you are launching in Greystones try north East of the Mulditch buoy for tope. It helps if you have GPS and fish finder but hey people managed before they were invented. If you catch in an area make note of 2 points on the land to try and get back to same place again. Keep notes of what state of tide you were at and what gear you were using and bait used and this will help on other days.
There is nothing better than practice so get out as often as possible and any problems you have ask questions on sites like this one and remember to share your experiences on here to help others coming along after you and tight lines.
