Hi All,
Just wondering could I get some advice on the use of soft plastic lures. Iv notice from posts on the site that the seem to do the job quite well. I have been fishing for years but apart from plugs and spinners never really used that many lures.
My main questions are
What way shoould these be set up. ie Straight to main line, through boom ect.
What weight should I aim to use if im going to be using it off of a boat.
Is the lure lowered directly over the side and then just retrieved upwards or is it cast allowed to sink and the retrived.
Any help would be great. I plan on using in and around howth/lambay and dalkey island.
Thanks Everyone

I use a 2 ounce jighead with soft plastic fed onto the hook. 20 lb fluorocarbon about the length of the rod, to protect the braid from becoming damaged, swivel then mainline. I'd use this set up from the kayak. If I was usin a soft plastic with hook in the soft plastic as standard then mainline, snap swivel, 2 ounce lead clipped onto the swivel, fluorocarbon the length of the rod tied onto the soft plastic and jogged off of the bottom. For weighted soft plastics I would change the weight of the lead accordingly. Hope this helps, again I fish from the kayak and have caught pollock and wrasse with these methods.

Tie straight to the main line. Let sink to the bottom and retrieve at a moderate pace. The shad will sometimes be taken on the way down. A nice way to fish.
