best rig for fishing when drifting?

Hi,

Doing a bit of small boat fishing at the moment, but we have no anchor so we are fishing on the drift. We tried different rigs, like 3 hook flappers or a 2 down with a spreader bar. We've had some success but when drifting its pulling the bottom rigs along the seabed. Is there are particular rigs which are more suited to fishing when on the drift ?

The first thing to do is get an anchor and rope. If you ever have engine trouble the anchor might be the only thing to stop you drifting out to sea or on to rocks


The spreader is fine when drifting over flat ground. Twenty inch snoods and a few beads work fine for me

A two or three hook rig off the bottom is best over rocky ground try not to leave it drift too far back from the boat as the line will only drag along the rock increasing the chances of snagging

thanks for the advice, will be getting a new rope today for the anchor.

french boom with 8ft trace and 5 oz lead combined with sidewinder or black jelly worm lure drop and reel up slowly great for cod and pollack on drift

i would use a boom with a 6-8 foot flowing trace. use a jellyworm, mackeral strip, rag etc. slow retrieve it dont stop if ya get a bit keep at the same pace and he will take it. If ya think your reeling slow enough reel slower. you should be rewarded with some good fish.
