Is it broken at the minute?
It sounds to me as someone has held down the transmit button for the last week?

I was out yesterday all sounded ok to me.

I noticed problems from Friday to Wednesday (wasn't out yesterday).
When I listened to 16 I just heard not stop static like someone was holding down the transmitter. The other channels were fine but when I put the radio into dual watch mode it stuck on 16 listening to the noise....
Maybe its just my radio.

I was also out on Sunday running on dual watch for most of the day and everything sounder ok.
Normally if there is a general problem like that everyone would be hearing it and Harbour Opts would be on the radio trying to get it sorted.
Did you check the squelch button.

No I just assumed there was a problem and stayed on 12...
There were a lot of boats going onto moorings and I figured one of them just powered up a corroded radio?
I've know it happened in the past… it’s a small handheld so I can check it out at home.
Thanks!

Handheld radio was fine at home…
When I was out on the boat last Sat I had the same prob…. Handheld was picking up a signal on Channel 16. It was just noise / static….
I could either leave it on, and when a legitimate signal came in over 16 (like coast guard) it was picked up… but I could not use Dual watch.
Likewise I could listen to another channel but would miss all the Channel 16 broadcasts…
This really annoyed me so I removed the radio from the cockpit and sat back by the engine to fiddle with it - and dualwatch worked fine….
Long story short… my new Garmin fishfinder 160c is causing static on channel 16….. That or the wiring, or maybe the radio is picking up small amounts of noise from it when it is within 3ft only….
My radio is a Cobra HH125 and for the rest of the day I had it on the other side of the boat and it worked fine, but its not a great solution….
Any one have experience of a Garmin fishfinder causing interference on channel 16? Any solutions?

installing a supression kit can sometimes improve static coming from other electronics and engine
