Rod Reel setup

Fri Jul 02, 2010 7:18 pm

Hi lads quick one for the tackle tarts out there !!

I have a Grauvell RC Oceanic T3 ( 4 piece rod ) 8>12lbs, 12>20lbs, 20>30lbs
I use it for shore fishing & occasionally Boat (My boat project is nearing completion ) so will be mostly used on this :P :P !!
I am looking to buy a sturdy reel that will accomodate all usages light up to heavy, what would do this task ??
Dont want expensive ( :D ) but will be usable all round. 8)
I use a Calypso EX 60 at the moment but was thinking of a Penn Commander 20LW
Any thoughts
Thanks
George M

The Penn Commander has to be the ugliest reel ever made!
Go for a 525 Penn. Will do for shore angling as well.

have to agree with Jim from Cork, thats one ugly reel.

I would go with a slosh30 a little dearer but well worth it, I have mine about three years now not so much as a murmmer out of it.

i think the penn gto 20 might be good. i think the 525 is great but for the price im not willing it ruin a good reel on a couple of macks

The macks will do the 525 no harm. I've used one for 3 years now on the boat and not a problem at all. They will also double for tope  I clean it under water after each session. Mack scales are easily removed with an old tooth brush. I give it a full clean and service (30 mins) at the end of the year.
