I use a rib for fishing out of. Its a fairly stable platform to fish out of. Never had any trouble with hooks catching on the sides or puncturing them you would have to be pulling very hard for them to catch. Have a look at zodiac ribs they seem to be the very popular or redbay ribs. there are loads of different makes.

Been out in a rib a number of times with mate of mine and cant fault em - as said earlier - good platform to fish from - just watch the tubes with the larger hook sizes that you dont puncture em

I use a small RIB for all my fishing, and they are great. I only go out to a max of about a mile from the shore, and then only in a force 2 or less. I have never had an issue with hooks puncturing it, as the material is quite thick. I use mine mainly for inshore mackeral trips during the summer, although I did catch my first tope last summer.
Good luck with whatever you decide :)

I have been using a RIB for fishing now for the past year and I cant fault it as was already said they are very stable and safe. I have seen them completely swamped and they still keep going as long as the engine stays out of the water and the tubes are now all made from Hypalon which is very tough stuff.

if you already have one then the RIB should suffice fine.
but if you are only getting one now and its fishing you want it for then maybe it would be worth condsidering a little 13ft dory or something, you should be able to pick one for fairly cheap with a decent enough engine and it would be plenty for mackand pollock fishing.
the advantage of the rib would be the speed but the dory would be a better choice for adding rod holders, trolling rests and so on, plus it would be perfect for inland lakes and rivers if you ever fancied any pike fishing maybe. think i would go for a dory myself but it all depends on how you plan to use it

I love ribs for hooning about on the ocean, doing donughts, driving it like I stole it..... but for proper fishing I'd go for a proper boat! :D

Yes, Tanglerat has it right '' but for proper fishing I'd go for a proper boat! ''
I have fished from a rib for about 10 years now. Great for distance at speed. Downside, however, is deckspace.
Did pierce the tube with a big hook once but no problem as the tube is compartmentalised.
