When using a pirk for conger do you attach the hook directly to the pirk or is it better to have the hook 6" to 12" away from the pirk?
I would normally pirk with a muppet above the hook for ling would this put off conger?
Does fishing hard on the bottom for conger mean flat on the bottom or bouncing on the bottom?
Any information appreciated.

Marc,
Just doing an article about pirking and ledgering for conger!
Directly to the pirk via a ring and 4/0 snap or stronger always does me fine. On very rare occasions the conger may trap the snap and break it by swivelling but this is very rare and normally will only happen if the conger is very lively when it comes to the boat. Muppet will have no adverse effect. Fishing hard on the bottom. Lift the pirk off the bottom every few minutes to ensure you are not lying in a hole and also often the conger may be just lying on the bait.
Pic attached will give you an idea.

An oval split and swivel is a good sub for the snap-link.
