Malta - worth bring my shimano telescopic

Heading off here at the end of the month for two weeks with herself. Anybody have any experience on what fishing if any is available?

its always worth bringing a rod... send herself shopping and away you go.. :lol:
not many beaches from what i have heard, but plenty of rock marks :D

if its anything like the south of France buy a pole(10ft tele) and set up coarse fishing float tackle and youl catch small bream, small golden Grey mullet and gobys. marinas over there also have plenty of decent mullet and plugging for bass on a decent evening can be very productive.

Don't bother with any freshwater gear -- there isn't any - freshwater that is ;)

It's a really interesting place. I was there a few years ago but didn't bother fishing. Worth doing a little reading on the history before you go. Gozo is also worth a trip if you have time.

Have a mate who fished it a few years back , seem to remember he wasn't very impressed with the charter he found himself on as a day-angler. Bit of a tourist trap, apparently. I can pm you his number if you want. I don't imagine he'd have done any shore fishing.

Well had a really nice time but alas didn't get fishing until the last day. Bought myself a telescopic pole for 15 euro and sat fishing for little bream with a float. Very different experience to fishing back home, was using bread but they kept nicking that off the hook so put on the mask and snorkel jumped off the rock i was fishing and went and got a few whelks and broke them to use, not too many times over here you'll do that to get bait :lol: Got loads of bites but couldn't land any of the buggers.

Went snorkelling alot and all the fish where very small, little bream, wrasse, red mullet and of course normal mullet. Lads I know we complain alot about our own fishing but we have no idea how lucky we are, was snorkelling over really rough ground in about 25ft of water and there was so little fish life :?

Most of the local lads fish with poles and floats, two baits below presented in a wishbone style, bread was the most common bait. All fish no matter what size get kept. The mullet lads used a normal bubble float of which was tied a lump of bread the size of your fist, laughed the first time I saw it thinking they'll not catch any of the wee lads with that. Got talking to them though and seen that they were using a gang of small hooks wrapped all over the bread. The mullet they were catching would have been no bigger than 15cm :o Biggest fish I saw were small amberjack around 2 to 3lb, came in along the stone walkway in the evenings, hammering after small fish right along the edge.

Weather was absolutely peachy though 8)
